Integrated Employer/Alumni Impact Evaluation
The Challenge
Continuous quality improvement requires listening carefully to primary consumers (students and alumni) and shadow consumers (employers and supervisors). No challenge in program evaluation is greater than obtaining clear and accurate information from these constituent groups. Issues are complex, often subtle; true insight emerges only after considerable interaction with employers and former students.
You can respond competently to student, employer, and community needs with InterEd's Integrated Employer/Alumni Impact Evaluation (EIE). InterEd’s methodology is based on focused interviews because we know they are essential to understanding the benefits employers and alumni derive from your programs.
InterEd has an intimate understanding of the higher education business (its founder was a leader in developing the nation’s largest adult-centered university). We will transform our knowledge into benefits for your education programs.
The Response
Skilled interviewers capture the richest possible information and leave strong positive impressions with your target employers, supervisors, and former students.
Skilled analysts weave your findings together, balancing the divergent perspectives and objectives of employers and alumni, to produce a report that you will be proud to share and use for your program development planning. We understand your market. We know how to gather and report information to improve your position in your market.
Focused Interviews
InterEd’s EIE service employs in-depth telephone interview strategies to:
- Ensure that only the most appropriate individuals respond to the questions (when returned, mailed surveys are often completed by unqualified personnel).
- Foster accountability on the part of the individual being interviewed. You get thoughtful responses to complex questions and a very high response rate.
- Ensure depth in the information obtained from respondents. Questions can be rephrased, respondents can elaborate.
Deliverables
Reports are focused on your needs so no two are alike. Typical reports contain the following information:
- Program efficacy and impact in the eyes of employers, supervisors and alumni.
- Emerging needs of employers in your program area and allied fields, including in-service training opportunities.
- One year projections of employer hiring and/or retraining.
- Public program recognition; how your program is compared to other programs.
- Factors influencing hiring of your students and graduates.
- Names of employers and alumni to contact for follow up, including those expressing interest in serving on an advisory board.
Employer Impact Assessment
InterEd’s Employer Impact Assessment component provides a cost-effective method for accessing employers’ dispositions toward your educational programs and services. This assessment can be especially effective in identifying program needs and opportunities for new markets. InterEd’s methodology employs a focused telephone interview strategy in which senior research professionals (no students, no telesurveys) engage in extended conversations with employers of interest to you.
The focus of these interviews varies with your goals but may address the impact of your educational program(s) on their employees’:
- Understanding of appropriate professional issues
- Critical thinking and problem solving abilities
- Application of theory to practice
- Verbal/written communication skills
- Understanding of regional and global issues
- Human relations and teamwork skills
- Quantitative reasoning skills
In addition, these conversations provide an excellent forum to discuss:
- Perceived strengths and weaknesses of your institution
- Interest in working with your institution in new program areas
When the telephone interviews are complete, our research team analyzes your findings in the context of our national perspective and prepares a report to your specifications. In addition to acquiring, organizing and focusing specific information about corporate education needs, we often uncover situations in which there is an immediate need for educational services.
Alumni Impact Assessment
InterEd develops and implements alumni impact assessments to meet your specific needs for alumni intelligence, accreditation, licensing, or institutional advancement.
Using a combination of mailed surveys, web surveys, and telephone interviews, InterEd will assess alumni’s judgment of the impact of their education on key workplace and professional needs and goals. The target audience for such a study is graduates that are one and three years out of the program.
The focus of these surveys and interviews varies with your goals but may address the impact of your educational program(s) on alumni:
- Industry or job-specific proficiencies
- Attitudes toward life-long learning
- Quality of life
- Critical thinking and problem solving abilities
- Application of theory to practice
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Teamwork skills
- Quantitative reasoning skills
When the research phase is complete, our team analyzes your findings in the context of our national perspective and prepares a report to your specifications. In addition to acquiring, organizing and focusing the assessments of these important stakeholders, this service might suggest avenues for near-term development that could increase your program’s competitive position.
