Retention/Drop-out Assessment

Retention to Graduation is the point of singularity wherein institutional, reputational, academic, financial, operational, and learner-centered definitions of quality converge.

Yet, some time in the first portion of their experience in an adult-centered or professional degree program, working adults will be critically at risk of dropping. Typically 50% or more of them will drop around that time. More than likely, you have conducted ìexit interviewsî or have engaged in other attempts to find out why people leave your program before graduation. If so, you may have found the results counter-intuitive, confusing, or irrelevant.

InterEd combines a variety of research strategies, including skilled interviews, to ask for and get honest answers to important questions. Moreover, we know how to filter the ìcop-outî answers many students provide. When first implemented, this research routinely finds two or three reasons for elective withdrawal that you can address. Thereafter, you can expect to identify one or two new action items each year.

However you do it, we suggest that you learn these things about your programs now and repair them immediately. Our caution is that if your research tells you the elective causes of dropping are “can’t afford it” and “don’t have the time,” your research process was inadequate.

Call us. We can help get you on the right track quickly or can conduct the research for you. Either way, we think you'll be delighted that you made the call.
