This columnist solicited advice on how to "fix" higher education from leaders in the sector. This is the response form Doug Bennett, president of Earlham College. Bennett focuses on access, cost, and outcomes assessment. Obviously, this is targeted at more traditional colleges and Bennett advocates ending ntercollegiate athletics as we know it." He suggests eliminating the tax exemption for the NCAA in order to start a disucssion about "the incompatibility between intercollegiate athletics and the honest (learning, research, service) missions of universities."
