U.S. Government Accountability Office, 3/1/2011

Report to the Senate Subcommittee on Federal Financial Management, Government Information, Federal Services, and International Security covering the GAO's analysis of the Department of Defense's management of their tuition assistance program. One of the key problems identified by the report was that DOD focuses oversight on campus-based programs operating on military bases. This policy needs to change in light of the rapid growth of online programs for members of the military. The report concludes, "Increased oversight is needed to remedy gaps in the accountability of the quality review process and the process to address complaints against schools."

Senator Harkin issued a press release regarding this report and the plan for hearings by the Subcommittee.
