Enrollment Counselor Education
InterEd has trained, coached, and managed the performance of Enrollment Counselors since 1994. Until now, however, these services were available only in the context of a larger university consultancy.
In 2010, we are offering a limited number of schools the opportunity to have their best Enrollment Counselors learn and apply best practices to achieve enrollments that are extraordinarily high in the context of your institution's market.
The Experience
The experience for Enrollment Counselors will consist of:
- A three-day, hands-on, intensive workshop
- Monthly follow up "Webinars"
- Monthly one-on-one telephone mentoring sessions
- Train-the-trainer coaching
The onsite portion of the in-depth educational experience will be conducted at our Executive Retreat facility.
Outcomes
Enrollment Counselor outcomes include the following elements of 2009 best practice.
- Accurately determining the needs of prospective students and how to meet them with excellence
- Developing and advancing effective relationships, and making appropriate conversions
- Managing behavior to target conversion rates and enrollment targets
- Understanding the implications of enrollment decisions on retention
- Working with a CRM system to provide structured, time-managed, and carefully documented enrollment assistance. (We will provide guidance for inexpensive options you can implement if you don't have an effective CRM in place.)
- Developing, understanding, and working with performance reports
- Adapting best practice to the opportunities and constraints presented by your specific academic and enrollment environment
At the Workshop
- Our education, mentoring, coaching, etc. will be conducted by senior professionals, each of whom has achieved more than two decades of sustained 12%+ YOY growth in adult-centered and professional degree programs. Those instructing and guiding your enrollment counselors have deep professional experience in enrollment, retention, and program management. They will draw on countless personal experiences in a variety of schools as they bring each learning experience to life. This is not a typical training experience where trained trainers "march" through boilerplate curriculum. This is a unique educational opportunity to put your enrollment counselors in front of some of the most creative and successful minds in adult-centered higher education.
-
Our focus will be exclusively on relationship-oriented enrollment and enrollment management. For a variety of reasons related to academic quality and long-term academic success, we do not generally believe in transactional sales for higher education.
This experience will address structured learning outcomes in three domains: (a) cognitive (e.g., knowing the metrics of pipeline management), (b) affective (e.g., listening with empathy to identify concerns, obstacles, etc. to be resolved), and (c) behavioral (e.g., demonstrating mastery of active listening and closing techniques).
- Your Enrollment Counselors will return with greater proficiency but will also have noticeably higher levels of professional engagement. Perhaps most important, your counselors will have an appreciation for working with performance metrics and will have seen and emulated best practice in tracking and reporting performance.
Follow Through, Follow Through . . . and Follow Through
If we were to condense our 25 years of experience helping Enrollment Counselors to a single point, that point would be follow-through at all levels! Effective Enrollment Counselors are masters at follow through and becoming an effective Enrollment Counselor requires ongoing, long-term follow through on learning and behaviors. Counselors return home from typical education experiences lacking the follow-up mentoring, coaching, and other forms of guidance necessary to transform what they learned into effective new behaviors. This educational experience assures conceptual and affective mastery in the onsite portion. It then ensures effective behavior change through yearlong group (Webinar) and individual (One-on-One Telephone Consultations) follow-up. The One-on-One follow-up is individualized to each Counselor's needs.
- The monthly follow-up Webinars will focus on horizontal and vertical group learning, and on consolidating group gains. Each session will begin with last month's group goals for self-improvement and will assess the degree to which participants achieved these goals. Each Webinar will introduce, and role-play, a specific topic or theme important to the progress of this group of Enrollment Counselors. Considerable team spirit and group commitment is an outcome of these experiences.
- The monthly one-on-one sessions will be personal and pragmatic coaching and mentoring sessions. While we describe this as a single session, the lines of communication are two-way. Your Enrollment Counselor will be able to secure coaching feedback at most times during the month and there may be several exchanges each month between our coach/mentor and your counselor.
Details
-
The fee for the three-day intensive onsite includes expenses usually left for the attending institution to pay out of pocket. The fee includes first class lodging, local transportation, meals, materials, amenities, social hours, entertainment, and telecommunications. In other words, you need only get your Enrollment Counselors to and from the Boise airport (BOI). InterEd will do and pay for everything else!
We will enroll a maximum of 10 counselors for this onsite experience.
The small monthly coaching and mentoring fee covers entire year's education, mentoring, individual coaching, and ad hoc individual access. Included in this process are monthly Webinars, one-on-one coaching and mentoring, and any additional materials developed to assist your Enrollment Counselor. This service is only available to graduates of the three-day intensive education.
- The return-on-investment for this experience is so high that, at first, it may defy common sense. Taking a small school's program environment as an example (the worst case for justifying this expense), Enrollment Counselors will enroll dozens of prospective students who would otherwise have fallen through the cracks created by their ineffective practices. For a typical small school, the Enrollment Counselors need only add one or two additional students in the first term to offset the entire expense of acquiring his new skills.
-
The dates for the three-day onsite education will be determined by the preferences of the first six enrollees. Because participation is limited to 10, and because some schools express an interest in sending more that one counselor, please contact us soon to determine if you are in a position to benefit from this offering at this time.
